These recommendations provide information about the use of artificial intelligence to screen asymptomatic women not at high risk of breast cancer.

These new recommendations have been issued during the latest Guidelines Development Group meeting, considering available evidence until 21 January 2022.

Artificial intelligence (AI)

In the context of an organised population-based screening programme, for asymptomatic women with an average risk of breast cancer, the ECIBC's Guidelines Development Group (GDG) suggests:

  • not using single reading supported by AI
    (conditional recommendation, very low certainty of the test accuracy evidence)
  • using double reading supported by AI 
    (conditional recommendation, low certainty of the test accuracy evidence)
